Link. This article really resonates me as I really have an irritation with people who are overly protective, especially when it is me. My parents basically let my brother and I have the run of a small forest when we were kids. We went outside in the morning, returned when they called, and got into plenty of shenanigans. Also walked to school by ourselves, delivered papers early in the morning alone, and while they were not always pleased about it there were some rather late nights too. I even drove all the way to Niagra Falls one weekend without telling them when I had just learned to drive. Any kids of mine will probably get a similar dose of reality. I have a strange fantasy of having them skydive into the wilderness and finding their way out, but I will be realistic...not until they are at least ten...
