When It Rains, It Leaks?

According to Ms. Hellion of Solitude, the house in Maine has developed an atrocious leak in the front living room. I can imagine her walking around this morning uttering little curses and "first the internet now this..." and "couldn't wait just nine more days until I am out of here...". So, I spent a bit of time playing phone tag with Amelia this morning getting the extent of the problem. Seems it is not a downpour but enough of a leak that there are multiple pieces of tupperware and some towels involved. Next, I played phone tag with the owner of the house trying to get him informed and figure out when his brother, who lives on the island part time, could get into the house and look at it. Seems this is a leak they thought they had fixed last summer, but as anyone who has seen the house can attest, nothing there is exactly fortified fully against the elements.

Curious how it survived winter just fine with all of the snow and melting and even heavy downpours, but once Spring hit it decides to leak. Fun times. Amelia seems to be just a bit stressed out as of late with constant work and preparing for Kim's wedding in a couple weeks. Poor little bunny. She needs a kitten!

Speaking of the weather, a well known and loved topic of conversation in PDX, could we puh-lease have a bit less cold and rain? As much as I love staying inside and reading/napping, I am so incredibly ready for this winter weather to be over and being able to go running with only one layer of clothes.

The NY Times front section was exceptionally interesting today. As the internet was down for a while this morning, I took the time to read the entire front section in analog form.

Democrats Divided Over Gas Tax is a quaint little article that deals with what each candidate thinks we should do with the rising gas prices in the country. Hillary is half wrong, partly right, and all too political. Obama is half right, half no real solution. And McCain has an aide that is trying to paint Obama as a flip flopper, which is just disgusting on so many levels. I used to like McCain eight years ago. How far he has fallen in my eyes. Yes, so the "solution" McCain and Hillary are proposing has no serious benefits for the middle class, and Dumbledore forbid Americans should think about reducing their energy/gas consumption.

Will John Edwards Ever Voice His Opinion? addresses a question that I have often wondered about as an Edwards/Richardson ticket was what I was realistically hoping for in this election. I suspect he is waiting for someone to grab the nomination before he says anything. He does not seem like the kind of candidate to start dividing up the party with his opinion, and he probably does want to be VP.

Finally, Chinese Students Protesting Against View of China in US may be something worth a series of pieces about how US citizens approach their viewing of China. Quite a number of people in PDX are very Pro-Tibet, Anti-China and lambast China's record on human rights. I think these Chinese students do see a bit of the hypocrisy the people of America have towards their country. At the same time, the students really do seem to be partially brainwashed with misleading information and made up "facts".
