Needs vs. Wants

I just moved into a new house this weekend and there is reason to believe that I will be staying in this area for a while, so I am debating the purchase of a mattress. For weeks now, my bed has been one of my sleeping bags on top of an inflatable backpacking mattress. It works for me. Realistically, it is all I need and I sleep well on it.

Hm, but is it what I want? That is the question. A mattress is far more comfy and you get more than a foot and a half of space to move around in...

Well, I bought a brand new, comfy Queen-sized mattress at Macy's as they were having a sale. Guess that solves that dilemma. Darn, silly housemates who make strong, rational arguments about comfort, long term living, and other such adult things.

It’s the “adult things” that’s important. If you had to think, it’s no wonder you have had women problems.
:-)

I have always had difficulty thinking that anything beyond what one “needs” is required for a well lived life.  And yes, it is no wonder with that line of thinking that I seem to have difficulty with dating.

you’ve had multiple long-term relationships that involved “being in love”, from what i understand.  that doesn’t look like overmuch difficulty with dating from my vantage.  it all depends where you stand, i suppose.

You’re right, Liz.  I am perhaps just asking for a bit too much, but it does not stop a man from reaching.

i don’t think you’re asking for too much (to be wanting to be dating someone) at all.  i was just remarking on the “difficulty with dating” aspect of your comment.

i can assure you that any partner will appreciate having a mattress to sleep on rather than a neighboring thermarest too!  :)

Hm.

I suppose that is true.

The new house looks great!  where is it?

Mattresses are nice *nods* I would like a new one myself.

Nonsense. My favorite radio ad was for a sale at REI, and it went something like, “Have you ever had reason to ask the question, ‘Your thermo-insulated sleeping bag, or mine?‘“
